2015 GALET-DES-PAPES
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE TRADITION
$39.99 BTL./$479.88 CASE

We have been buying, selling, aging and drinking Blandine Mayard's family's wines for almost 20 years and it is a thrill to have her here for a special friday Tasting featuring some excellent wines. We lead it all off with the sterling 2015s.

The Tradition Chateauneuf-du-Pape is not an ‘entry wine’, it is instead the name denotes its traditional aspects of being primarily Grenache. 50 year old vines, 80% Grenache - 5% Syrah - 5% Cinsault - 5 % Mourvedre - 5% Vaccarese and pure lusciousness is what is on the table from start to finish with pronounced fraise du bois, roasted plum, kirsch, grilled rock, exotic Asian spice and game. The wild side of this full red is balanced in the mouth with a giving core of pure strawberry & rhubarb jam. The elegant and open-knit structure and lingering spice laden finish make this one of the best Galets to date. Drink now through 2030+.

2015 GALET-DES-PAPES
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE VIEILLES VIGNES
$43.99 BTL./$527.88 CASE

One of the most underrated and long-lived wines in all of Chateauneuf, the "Vielles Vignes" cuvee is composed of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, and 10% Syrah and the result is purity to the max!

As we sat and tasted this wine, our notes went on and on, about how superb it was! Exotic red berry fruit on the nose along with lots of roasted and gamey tones, black pepper, coffee, and mineral. Incredible density in the mouth. Very primary roasted earth, black olive, herbes de Provence notes, along with a solid core of raspberry and kirsch fruit. This is typically a bit of a diva right now, but has an incredible future ahead of it. The saturated core of fruit and spice completely sops up any baby fat, and the length is too long to mention. It is reminiscent of, yet doesn't take a back seat to the likes of Pegau, Beaucastel or Vieux Donjon. Drink 2020 - 2034 +.

2001 GALET-DES-PAPES
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE TRADITION
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE

We held back the last three cases of this hauntingly beautiful library selection speciafically for Blandine's visit. This will be the last go-round so if you want any of this wine, come taste and pick some up...or place your order.

After shaking the initial cobwebs, the 2001 Galet stretches and unveils lacy, tertiary aromas. Mushroom, dried rosemary and an array of Indian and African spices lead the way. Very refined with an almost Burgundian demeanor; plenty of sultry creamy red fruits that seemingly float through the mouth. A beguiling expression of old Chateauneuf, the persistence of a great vintage like 2001 is still evident. Almost meditative at this point, enjoy with slow braised meat dishes. It will also pair well with mild soft cheeses.

2004 GALET-DES-PAPES
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE VIEILLES VIGNES
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE
PRE-ARRIVAL LIBRARY SELECTION, ORDERS PLACED WILL ARRIVE LATE MAY/EARLY JUNE. PAYMENT DUE WHEN WINE ARRIVES

It is something very special when we are able to these pre-arrival offerings from the Galet des Papes library but it is even more precious when you are able to taste and see what will be arriving. 2004 was one of the big sleeper vintages of the past decade. The Vieilles Vignes cuvee is a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah from vines ranging from 60-100+ year old vines. Old vine magic aromas are omni-present and present complex, secondary aspects. Quasi Barolo/Bandol influences lie beneath the Grenache overlay of ardent strawberry, virtual Chinese 5-spice, truffle, white pepper and rhubarb. Complex scents of violet, pekoe and camphor also ride shotgun. In the mouth it is drinking exquisitely. Smoothly textured, impressive mid-palate presence and really fanning out on the energetic, spice-laden, drawn-out finish that seemingly lasts and lasts. Drink this with a myriad of food selections. Try with game meats like venison or elk but it will also do quite well with duck, a hearty daube de boeuf (a provencal stew) or soft-ripened cheeses.
