2015 PECCHENINO DOLCETTO
DOGLIANI 'SIRI D'JERMU'
[reg. $29.99]
SPECIAL - $17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

A deep special on one of the most brilliant Dolcetto wines and supplies aren’t going to last long. Read on and order if you want some!

Along with Einaudi’s Vigna Tecc, Vajra’s Costi & Fossatti and Marcarini’s Boschis di Berri, this is one of the pantheons of Dolcetto. From the northernmost portion of the Dogliani zone, this vineyard has exquisite exposure and the wine is aged in large barrels to obtain further complexity, depth and aging potential. Ethereal, complex and red fruit dominated with deft delicacy and complexity. Loads of suede-like coverage in the mouth, this palate-staining Dolcetto delivers plenty of flavor and character from exuberant start to stopwatch-busting, long finish. Orlando Pecchenino feels that this Dolcetto will have no problem aging for up to a decade, but let's face it this is too irresistible now. Have it with anything that you might serve with Barolo. Try a risotto with some morels.

2017 ESPELT CORALI
EMPORDA ROSE
$11.99 BTL./$143.88 CASE

Looking at a map, your eyes will tell you that this wine is from Spain but in order to maintain your pink wine street credibility, you need to refer to it as hailing from Catalonia.

Absolutely wonderful and fragrant, but with plenty of restraint and zip. Sandy soils bring about aromatics, and this 100% Garnacha offers up scents of freshly cut strawberry raspberry, mineral and Mediterranean herbs. The texture and the hook of this hot pink number is zingy, full of flavor and brisk, mouth-watering character. A yummy sleeper from the Emporda region on the Mediterranean Sea right next to the border of France.

2016 CLOS DE LA BROSSE
SAINT-AMOUR
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

Old vine Cru Beaujolais it is finest, this seamless Gamay delivers a luminous presence of creme de framboise, smoked violet, anise and undertones of strawberry and cinnamon-stick. Resoundingly vivacious, this gem is a total eruption of flavors that cascade through the mouth. Finishes lengthy and full of spice, but fills in beautifully with sultry fruit that coats the throat as it goes down. The classic pairing would be roasted chicken with mushrooms.

We also recommend going outside the borders and having it with Indian or Moroccan cuisine as well as grilled fish. Also a nice rating – 91 POINTS – VINOUS

2016 GINI SOAVE CLASSICO
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Soave is another one of those bastardized names such as Valpolicella and Chablis. These are names that you have heard of because in the past the focus of these areas was high volume, mass produced wines that were extremely cheap. Yet over the past two decades, the Soave zone located in Northeast Italy has seen a surge in excellence. Great producers like Gini, Pra, Pieropan and Suavia are making terrific wines, based around the varietal Garganega.

A beautiful spring-summer white wine (although we like to drink it all year long), with hints of wet stone, lemon, and orange on the nose. In the mouth, there is excellent intensity without compromising its high-elevation crispness. Lots more citrus fruits in the mouth, great zing, and a long finish make you keep coming back for another glass. At this price, one can afford to have this stocked up in the refrigerator. With its cut, lift and minerality this can pair well with a plethora of seafood dishes.

In the mouth, the round, layered texture is inviting, billowy, ripe and forward. The finish brightens carrying quite a bit of extension; lusciousness and pleasure-factor that we feel that it will pair beautifully with steak, cheeseburgers or just plain by itself.

2015 TASCA D'ALMRITA
NERO D'AVOLA 'LAMURI'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

One of the most important producers from Sicily (and Italy), Tasca D’Almrita is one of the players that brought Sicily into the modern age of winemaking and has been an influence to many others. Lamuri, or "love" in Sicilian dialect, is one of Tasca d'Almerita's most luscious, classy, and exquisitely priced Nero d'Avola wines.

Ruby red in color with a persistent bouquet of mulberries, black cherries, mint, tangy earth and sage. Generous and dry with expansive fruit carrying into a lingering and integrated finish. We highly recommend this succulent, savory Italian red with grilled and roasted red meats or hard sheep's milk cheeses.

2001 GALET DES PAPES
CHATEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 'TRADITION'
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE - LAST CALL

We are down to the last few cases of this gem and then it is just going to become a lovely memory.

After shaking the initial cobwebs, the 2001 Galet stretches and unveils lacy, tertiary aromas. Mushroom, dried rosemary and an array of Indian and African spices lead the way. Very refined with an almost Burgundian demeanor; plenty of sultry creamy red fruits that seemingly float through the mouth. A beguiling expression of old Chateauneuf, the persistence of a great vintage like 2001 is still evident. Almost meditative at this point, enjoy with slow braised meat dishes. It will also pair well with mild soft cheeses.

2016 WALTER SCOTT PINOT NOIR
'FREEDOM HILL VINEYARD'
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE

Ken Pahlow knows the Freedom Hill Vineyard like the back of his hand having had experience making wines from this site since the 90s back in his days at St. Innocent. Freedom Hill Vineyard is located in the foothills of the coast range 10 miles southwest of Salem, in the warmer Eola Hills area. This site is protected from strong coastal winds by hills to the east and benefits from heat rising off the valley floor. Noted for producing wines of power, this one follows suit and is always the last of the lineup to reveal its ultimate personality.

Freedom Hill Vineyard is always one of Oregon's powerhouse sites. Typically big and dense, Ken is a master at working with this vineyard and bringing outs its beauty in lieu of its sheer mass. 2016 may be the best version yet! Broad aromatics dominate this offering. Pronounced plum, blackberry, piecrust, and Asian spice, this wine penetrates very deeply and is not about being an oak bomb or a caricature of itself. For a big wine, it is very nimble and alive. Well-structured on the finish with tones of caramel and earth. As usual, Freedom Hill is ageworthy and this one is no exception. 225 cases produced.
