2017 DELAPORTE SANCERRE
CHAVIGNOL
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

There is something about this Sancerre that makes you all swoon. Good reason, the quality here is impeccable! This is a last shot at the excellent 2017, if you need more Sancerre or want to discover one of the apec producers, then grab some bottles. Young Matthieu Delaporte, grandson of the Sancerre visionary Vincent Delaporte, proudly carries on his legacy, is a serious terroirist, and captures the essence of Sancerre in every vintage. At the apex of the entire Sancerre region, the village of Chavignol would qualify as Grand Cru in just about any wine growing region.

2017 is a small quantity vintage but the remaining grapes have produced epic results. Sultry aromas of flintstone and pronounced, pleasing mandarin along with gooseberry and lemon. Beautiful ripeness with lots of cool, snappy crisp tones to balance out the intensity of fruit and terroir. Drawn out, long finish that shows impeccable nervosité. To us, this white is on parallel with some of the finest Sauvignons of the world. Drink with pan-seared Halibut cheeks, Dover sole or, if you can find it, a proper Crottin du Chavignol.

2016 ELK COVE PINOT NOIR
'LA BOHEME'
$45.99 BTL./$275.94 - SIX PACK

Sometimes this estate, like many other well-established pioneers get lost in the shuffle of the latest hype or trends that writers want to talk about. Yet so many are doing things better than ever and Elk Cove is one such estate. Founded in 1974 and one of the pioneering Oregon producers, Pat and Joe Campbell’s son Adam has quietly elevated this estate into one of Oregon’s finest since joining his parents in 1995. Along with a nice lineup of wines, six single Cru wines are produced at Elk Cove and the La Boheme always tends to be the most regal and velvety of the bunch.

Planted in 1985 and named after the family who sold them the property as well as Joe and Pat’s favorite opera, the La Boheme is a virtual princess who is being groomed to be queen. Abstract and intellectual, the aromas for 2016 are striking, revealing sandalwood, perfumed blackberries, violet and bright cranberry undertones. Luxurious, ethereal and multi-faceted in the mouth, it displays outstanding persistence, superb Thai spice, underlying finesse and a drawn-out, seamless finish. Despite the cushion and alluring aspects, resist the urge to drink it now and have it end of 2020 through 2032.
