2018 WALTER SCOTT PINOT NOIR
'LA COMBE VERTE'
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Something perfect to impress and share with out of town guests! When it comes to this wine as well as its Chardonnay sibling, I often hesitate to call it merely Willamette Valley because of the quality of vineyards, farming and winemaking that goes into the production of them. They are that serious and impeccable values.

A change in 2018 is the addition of two vineyards into this cuvee which come from other sections of the valley, Sequitur from Ribbon Ridge which is owned by Mike Etzel of Beaux Freres and Red Hills Estate in Dundee along with Lewman, Soujourner (Eola-Amity) then the final piece being some old vine Freedom Hill into the blend. Sensuous aromatics with an impressive core of poised fruit, engaging smoke and spice all that follows through to a silky texture that expands nicely and maintains vibrancy throughout. Lengthy and very promising, this seriously delectable and seamless Pinot is an unmitigated heist! Very enjoyable now but this will also easily age and develop for 8+ years.

2016 FILLIATREAU SAUMUR-CHAMPIGNY
‘VIEILLES VIGNES’
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

One of the icon estates from an appellation that is not widely known in America, Saumur-Champigny, Domaine Filliatreau makes exquisitely detailed and pure expressions of Loire Valley Cabernet Franc. Eschewing the use of oak, these earth-laden wines always possess soaring fruit, deep color and plenty of intensity without any make-up or lipstick.

We have used other cuvees from this estate in the past but for the first time we are featuring the top cuvee that is from 50-90 year old vines. The vines thrive in their home of limestone and clay soil, which adds to the unique charm, and charisma of the wine. Young and plucky enough to go with turkey, it will age beautifully and after about 8-10 years gains considerable dimension and requires braised foods. Delicate raspberry, dried herbs, licorice, sandalwood and tobacco permeate from the glass and continue challenging the olfactory senses as it opens. In the mouth, the generosity and spine of the grand-scale 2016 vintage gives it plushness, but overall, the composition of the wine is lacy, classy and seemingly fragrant in the mouth with a steely underbelly. The finish is refined, soulful, and a definitive taste of France.

2018 INGRID GROISS GEMISCHTER SATZ
AUSTRIAN WHITE BLEND
$21.99 BTL./$263.88 CASE

Question: Do you ask what grapes comprise the blend when you drink a bottle of Chateau Latour, Chateau de Beaucastel or Mouton Rothschild? Quick answer - NO! Why? Because it is more about the terroir and what the vineyard brings forth on the wine. Ingrid Groiss is a young talent and one who is following her vision and making some of the most intriguing wines that I have recently tasted.

Gemischter Satz roughly translates into ‘mixed set’ and the blend here is a remarkable 17 varietals from 50-year-old vines. Comprised of Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Müller Thurgau, Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Fruhroter Veltliner, Neuburger, Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Samling, Roter Veltliner, Grauer Voslauer, Hietl Rote, Weisse Voslauer and Silberweisse, this dry white wine is the epitome of spice and mineral all in one bottle.

Compelling apricot, mandarin, pine needle and, white pepper, chalk and spice traits, there is marvelous depth that's offset in a most refined and complex way by mineral-driven briskness. Serious scents of wet stone, mint and oyster shell start to shine on the second and third sips. Classy, linear, harmonized and very drawn-out this wine can be consumed over the next 5 years. The Thanksgiving plate is always filled with many varying flavors so why not the wine, too?

2018 COMINCIOLI 'DIAMENTE'
CHIARETTO ROSE
$19.99 BTL./$119.94 - SIX PACK

While we are not agents of Satan like Cardinal Copia from the band Ghost, The BeeGees or Wine Marketers, however, we are proponents of great rose with the holiday feasts that revolve around the big bird. Many pink wines produced throughout Italy but the truth is that there are only three TRADITIONAL Rosé-producing areas, Abruzzo, Puglia and the Chiaretto wines from the area around Lake Garda. When it comes to these wines, Comincioli is one of the supreme leaders.

Located on the western side of the lake, this particular pink delight is a splashing blend of Groppello, Barbera, Sangiovese and Marzemino. Aromatically expressive and glowing from the glass, there is an abundance of strawberry, mineral and savory fennel notes. In the mouth, it is intense, elevated, super-succulent and inviting from start to finish. Pleasurable, but also very complex and no doubt that it'll drink well into next year; serve with grilled chicken, pork, halibut and especially if you are having smoked turkey.
