2019 CANTINA VALLE ISARCO
GRUNER VELTLINER
$16.99 BTL./$101.94 - SIX PACK

Gruner Veltliner in Italy? Why yes! Okay so the Valle Isarco is a mere football kick (5 km) from Austria and the co-op of the region produces extremely impressive wines. One of which they are exceptionally proud of is their Gruner, which shows very different from its Austrian brethren. Complex soils allow this grape to thrive in Alto Adige and given the direct relationship, it is a fabulous value.

Complex, alluvial soils containing quartz and diorite rock drive the minerality of this wine. This sassy white wine is so good it might make you want to dance because it is that good. Enticing and inviting aromas that are very fresh and laden with yellow and green apple, lime, and pleasant peppermint and spicy streak. The palate may be even more impressive than the aromas being dry, uplifting and having nice substance as well along with subtlety and length. This wine will go with an array of seafood appetizers, white sausages, and mild cheeses and do not be afraid to have it with something with a little kick of spice.

2016 AGUSTI TORELLO MATA
CAVA RESERVA
$19.99 BTL./$119.94 - SIX PACK

Often times Cava can be stereotyped and referred to as being industrial. While this region South of Barcelona certainly has producers like refinery producers like Frexinet and Segura Viudas, there is a thriving scene of growers producing great sparkling wines that are more than just eye opening. One of the greatest sparkling wine producers outside of France, Augsti Torello is the renowned godfather of the grower Cava producers. What makes it so special? AgustĂ Torello makes small quantities of handcrafted sparkling wines based around the areas indigenous varietals of Parellada, Macabeo, and Xarel-lo and this cuvee spent 3+ years on the lees.

Refined aromas of lemon, biscuit, and mineral entice on the nose. Tightly focused and very elegant flavors of hazelnut, lemon, and spice. This has some very serious high-class mousse. No comparisons here to Champagne, as this wine is special in itself. Lovely on its own, it does work very well at the table with shellfish, fish, and poultry. If you love bubbly best buys then do not miss this one.
