2010 COLOMBE DE PEYROUX CASTILLON COTES-DE-BORDEAUX
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

Having shed some of its baby fat, this Bordeaux is absolutely mouth-watering delicious right now! Owned by St-Emilion Grand Cru superstar Catherine Nouvel-Papon, a small roadway separates her Castillon vineyard from those in the renowned St-Emilion appellation.

A real over-achiever, this opaque, full-scale Bordeaux immediately engages the olfactory senses with freshly ground espresso, prominent raspberry, underlying cedarbox, anise and just a kiss of aromatic herbs. In the mouth it is dry, palate-coating and possessing plenty of material and backbone. Long and drawn out, this wine follows over to the table quite nicely. Enjoy this one over the next 4-5 years with duck, lamb chops or perhaps a risotto jacked with ceps.

2010 LIBRANDI CIRO ROSSO RISERVA "DUCA SAN FELICE"
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

92 POINTS – WINE & SPIRITS MAGAZINE

No holding back – this is one my absolute favorite Italian wines! Librandi is located in Cirò Marina, a small town in the southern Italian region of Calabria (Italy's boot tip), on the splendid Ionian coastline. The soil in this area is naturally suited for grape growing, and the geographic position, located between the sea and the Sila Mountains, guarantees an excellent balance between day and nightime temperatures.

At Librandi, Riserva really does mean something more than just upping the percentage of new oak. Longer aging, maceration, location and lower yields are the difference between the Rosso and the Riserva which has been produced since 1981. Aroma and flavor profiles are more substantial, too. 2010 is one of the finest versions of this wine that we have featured. Picture a gangster dressed in a tuxedo. Debonair, yet maintaining its street credibility, there is an abundance of suaveness and depth here that separates it from the Classico. Earth-spice, plenty of plum, black licorice and smoke; all done in a polished, refined style. Broad, savory and well integrated, it pairs well with tomatoes, but with the extra levels of depth and fruit, it will also handle some spicy peppers, too. Drink through 2021.

2013 RENATO RATTI ROERO ARNEIS
$11.99 BTL./$143.88 CASE

A new and very fun white from our friend Pietro Ratti who happens to be a premier Barolo producer. We had heard Pietro was dabbling with Arneis but after recently tasting it we didn't realize just how good it turned out to be. From the same area in the Roero where he gets fruit for his Nebbiolo this is a perfect white that makes the transition from summer to fall.

Blazing, gorgeously detailed and stunningly balanced with loads of blood orange, lemongrass, starfruit, and mineral on the nose. In the mouth it's dazzling, dry and brisk, but with no shortage of depth and flavor. Fantastic white for roasted, barbecued or deep fried chicken or with seafood especially Asian-style seared tuna or fried calamari.

2011 HAMACHER CHARDONNAY "FORETS DIVERSEES"
$35.99 BTL./$431.88 CASE

The first sentence in my notes is "this wine wants to be a classy White Burgundy!!" The potential of Oregon Chardonnay is now being realized by committed producers and since the mid ‘90s, Eric Hamacher has been one of true believers.

This silky Chardonnay will never be confused with a butterball California Chardonnay, and thank goodness!! Stunning refinement for a new world Chardonnay, this wine shows off complicated aromas of orange, buttered-toast, rosemary and mineral with integrated vanilla/cinnamon tones. Nice depth, velvety, mouth-filling fruit and sophistication characterize the texture. The finish is lifting and lively and very long. We hate to use constantly use hyperbole, but in this case, it is merited. This is phenomenal juice! Drink it now through 2020+.

2013 BELDA MONASTRELL
$8.99 BTL./$107.88 CASE

At 9 bucks this red from Valencia will make just about any red wine lover happy.

Delightful with pizza, sausages, burgers, chili, etc, this dark but luscious red possesses forward plum, white pepper and hints of smoky qualities. Mouth-filling, honest and wearing its traits on its sleeve, this wine makes for the perfect every evening drink.

2012 NINE HATS COLUMBIA VALLEY RED
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Nine Hats is famed Walla Walla producer Long Shadows second wine and within this project, all 9 of the winemakers associated with this project have their hat in the ring on the various wines. The Columbia Valley Red is always a winner and the 2012 has performs way above what many would think is a mere blend.

33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 15% Malbec, 15% Merlot, 10% Syrah & 7% Petit Verdot and revealing chewy, hearty, full aromas and flavors of plum, milk chocolate, red licorice, plum, black cherry and nutmeg. In the mouth it is sumptuous, palate-staining and assertive with plenty of Asian spices on the drawn-out, lingering finish. A real Long Shadows experience that can be consumed over the next 5-8 years.

2011 FINCA DECERO MALBEC "REMOLINOS VINEYARD"
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

A relative new find from Argentina's Mendoza region and one that I think needs to be acted on now because future vintages will see more popularity which then leads to inevitable price increases.

Heady, full and aromatic nose of bold, dark plum-pepper, allspice, violet and hot rock. One smell reveals that it is from old vines at a high elevation. Sexy, saturated, chewy and polished. Dense, vinuous and a real mouthful of red wine. Through all of this, it maintains elevation that calls you back for another glass and another and another, etc., etc. The finish is penetrating and dense and reveals strawberry-licorice aspects and sticks around for a long time. Tasty indeed. Drink over the next 3-4 years.

2011 ALAIN VOGE CORNAS "LES CHAILLES"
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE

2009 through 2013 in the Northern Rhone Valley will all prove to be very fine vintages. Along with Clape, Domaine Voge is one of the two grand old producers in this small Syrah appellation that is finally getting recognition for its greatness and deservedly so, these are collectible wines which age impeccably.

2011 very ably follows 2010 for this leading Domaine and their Les Chailles cuvee delivers thrilling and profound tones of cracked pepper, violets, smoked beef, and undertones of chocolate-covered cherry. In the mouth, it shows a lushness of fruit that is still youthful, but also shows the tell-tale minerality and backbone-structure of the region. The finish is young and exuberant, but seems to go on and on. There is tremendous aging potential for those who collect. If you are adventurous uncork one now with a steak slathered in a mélange of peppercorns, but for best results give it until the end of 2016 and then enjoy it over the next decade after that. This beauty just received 94 points from The Wine Spectator if one really needs reassurance of its greatness.
