2013 DOMAINE GRAILLOT
CROZES-HERMITAGE ROUGE
$31.99 BTL./$383.88 CASE

Forget Beaujolais Nouveau, over the last few years it has become THE day before T-Day tradition…we uncork the new release of Domaine Graillot’s magical and influential Crozes-Hermitage! Simply put, Alain and his son Maxime Graillot are the Kings of Crozes, and make some of Earth’s most prolific and age worthy wines from the Syrah grape. First thing to remove from your brain is that these aren’t caricature, high-alcohol, sweet, jammy fruity versions that somehow get associated as being Syrah. These have civility, detail and excellent depth without ever becoming heavy or thick.

Most important here is the array of soils (sand, silica, white clay mostly covered with stones) along with the location on the 45th Parallel. Most of the vines for this offering were planted in 1973 and the wine undoubtedly leaves an enduring impact on the entire range of olfactory senses. Violet, cinnamon, freshly ground black pepper and blackberry. Penetrating, haunting, cerebral, ethereal and youthfully exuberant, this literally feels like a combination of 1999 and 2005 with its depth, dimension and structure, especially as it stretches out on the palate on through to the everlasting finish. I have been buying, selling, cellaring and drinking Graillot wines since the 1988 vintage and not only are they terrific values, but they age stupendously. Accessible at this point however, it will ultimately be in its finest form 2017 – 2027++.
2009, '10, '11, '12 & 2013 are all exceptional vintages but for me, the most special of all are 2010 and 2013, do not miss out on this very special Grand Vin!!

2014 DOMAINE GRAILLOT
CROZES-HERMITAGE BLANC
$29.99 BTL. - LIMITED!

On my trip to the Rhone Valley earlier this year, one of the biggest revelations that I had was the resurgence and superb quality of the entire region’s white wines. Gone are the days of heavy and ponderous wines. Today we are seeing an influx of wines that reflect beauty, depth, terroir, aging potential and above all, freshness and drinkability.

Always an influential producer, Alain Graillot and his son Max have never been one to do things for mere tradition sake and changes in their white wine have led others to follow. The 2014 is a blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne and the key here is that malolactic fermentation is blocked and the wine is aged in 50% stainless steel and 50% larger, 500-liter barrels. The resulting white wine is very fragrant and alive with scents of pear, blossoms, ginger, lime and ample underlying minerality. Mouth-filling and full of energetic burst with lovely complexity and complimentary succulence that carries all the way to the delectable, drawn-out finish that is teeming with flavor and character. Enjoy this delicious white wine with monkfish, grilled tuna or white meats as well as soft-ripened cheese after the main course. Perfect for drinking now and over the next 4-6 years. 2 cases came to Oregon and I have two bottles that will be opened today. If you want the chance to try this wondrous white wine, come in before they are drained.

CHAMPAGNE LOUIS ROEDERER
BRUT PREMIER
SPECIAL- $46.99 BTL./$281.94 - SIX PACK

With all of our attention focusing on the growers of Champagne and our avoidance of houses like Moet who are busy sweetening up their Champagnes to compete with Prosecco here in the US, we often forget how much goodness that some of the grandes maisons can and do deliver.

Champagne Roederer makes a wide range of cuvees in all price ranges and is one of the historic houses of the region with history going back to 1765. Roederer is a large landholder in the area, and is able to produce around 80% of its grape requirements and the house's multi-vintage Brut Premier is a perennial winner and, as usual, is on world-beating form! This year's release is as seductively rich as it has ever been with sophisticated, pear-ginger-vanilla tinged fruit that is well into its creamy, full stage and just beginning to pick up its alluring biscuit quality along with impeccable brisk nervosity. A fantastic special price, this is one that will surely please any Champagne lover. Get it on this deal now.

NOTE - The Cellar Door will be closed on Thursday November 26 & Friday November 27 for the long weekend and will return Monday Nov. 30 at 9:30 AM. Happy Thanksgiving!!
