2018 MASCARONNE
COTES-DE-PROVENCE ROSÉ
‘QUAT ‘SAISONS’
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Located in the heart of Provence, Chateau La Mascaronne is located just outside the famed village of Le Luc. St-Tropez is in close proximity to the southwest and Chateau Miraval is about an hour away. Why am I mentioning the Hollywood merde juice from Miraval? Because Tom Bove, an American ex-pat owned Miraval and sold it off in 2012 to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who thus turned it into something seemingly from la zone industrielle that is very soulless and globalized in comparison to this wine.

Also owned by Tom Bove, Chateau La Mascaronne was attractive to him for purchasing in 1999 due to its superior terroir that is rocky, limestone laden and teeming with natural wild herbs. Very difficult to cultivate and organically farmed, highly energetic is a blend of 55% Cinsault, 30% Grenache & 15% Syrah and extremely compelling with expressive notes of cherry blossom, saline, freesia, anise and mineral. Intense upon entry it then gives way to an expansive texture that is elevated and possessing perky crispness, nimble balance and extension. Grilled prawns or chicken with this dry pink wine will surely bring joy and happiness.

2018 PEYRASSOL
COTES-DE-PROVENCE ROSÉ
‘CUVEE COMMANDERIE’
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Roll about 20 minutes to the south of Mascaronne and we come to the famed Chateau de Peyrassol, an estate whose history was discovered in documents stating that 28,000 liters of wine were harvested...in 1256! These days this estate is one of the go-to producers for red, white and pink from this area. The Commanderie cuvee is one of the estate’s four Rosé selections and is the one that really delivers big bang for a twenty spot.

A blend of the usual Provençal players that we love so much, 45% Cinsault, 29% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 6% Rolle and 5% others; the Commanderie de Peyrassol Rosé is the real deal. Elegant pink in color with fresh strawberry, herbes de provence, rose petal and chamomile billowing in the mouth yet maintaining a delicacy and insane freshness. The lingering finish of perfectly comprised of ripened fruit that is bone dry and very persistent. A rose to bring to the table, enjoy it with seafood stew, mussels cooked in a saffron-spiked garlic broth or in an herbed-up red sauce and of course some good roasted or fried potatoes...do it up!
