TEDESCHI AMARONE/VALPOLICELLA FRIDAY SIPS
Special Guest - Riccardo Tedeschi
Today April 28 from 3:30 - 6:30
RICCARDO TEDESCHI IS IN THE HOUSE! Drop by today to sample a plethora of excellent wines from the Veneto and to meet the man himself as he pours and discusses his range of Valpolicella, Amarone and Soave wines.
Five generations in and led by the always gentlemanly Riccardo Tedeschi, over the last decade this estate has vaulted into the Veneto top-echelon along with the likes of Masi, Tommaso Bussola and others.
Lucchine is Riccardo's foray into the world of unoaked, trattoria-style Valpolicella. Pleasurable and made for drinking rather than aging, this Valpol is about pent-up, red-fruit hedonism. Flashy, aromatic cherry-soaked balsamic aromas with underlying herbs and minerals. Illuminating and fun with flavors that attack from start to finish. 2015 has a bit more fruit; it will pair with a plethora of dishes ranging from burgers, spaghetti and meatballs, a plate of antipasti and oh, by the way, it happens to be one of our favorite pizza wines. One taste and you’ll want a case!

SUPERIORE 'MATERNIGO'
[reg. $39.99]
SPECIAL - $24.99 BTL./$149.94 - SIX PK
An awe-inspiring special price, not only is this a thrill ride of a wine, the locale-named Maternigo is from a vineyard called ‘Impervio’ and is so steep that it may well make a mountain goat puke! This seven-acre single vineyard possesses superior terroir consisting of intermittent white and yellow limestone marls. Done with traditional vinification without any drying of the grapes and aged for 14 months in 2000 and 2500-liter barrels, the newly arrived 2013 is a real class act.
Dense and impressive with aromas of blackberry, bing cherry, almond and dark chocolate filling your nose. The palate is luscious and finely textured, from entry right through to the impressively long, high-toned finish. Despite its depth and spine it truly reaches the pinnacle of the marriage between balance and approachability as well as elegance and power. Braised pork shoulder, osso bucco and a cheese course are the no-brainer choices but this beauty will make a roasted chicken something special and sing with grilled steak.

The Tedeschi family has been making this top-end Valpolicella Ripasso since 1976. Ripasso is a Veneto winemaking technique that consists of taking freshly pressed Valpolicella Classico juice and passing it over the pommace (mainly skins and seeds) of the Amarone. This is truly the best of both worlds, bringing a level of intensity that is perfectly balanced by the fresh and bright berry notes.
Savory red and blueberry fruit, violet and cocoa jump from the glass. These aspects are echoed in the mouth with chocolate notes and soft tannins joining to create a red that is deliciously forward and ready to drink. Enjoy with braised and hearty meat dishes, burgers, nutty cheeses & anything with stewed or roasted veggies.

SUPERIORE 'LA FABRISERIA'

La Fabriseria is one of the Tedeschi family's top single vineyards with both Amarone and Valpolicella produced from these high-elevation grapes. Simply put, this is one of the finest Valpolicella wines you will taste. Period.
Cropped at virtually the same levels as Amarone, the big difference here is that the grapes aren't dried and unlike the San Rocco, this wine is done without the ripasso technique. 35% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 30% Rondinella 5% Oseleta, this terrific Italian red is mind blowing. Classic Veneto amare scents along with cherry pit, tealeaf and touches of anise follow through to a concentrated but very well balanced texture that's hearty, savory and engagingly elusive due to aging 24 months in large, traditional Slavonian botti. Long and drawn out, this wine is quite the match with polenta coated with a hearty lamb or pork sugo with porcini mushrooms.

When it comes to top-drawer Amarone, Riccardo Tedeschi doesn't mess around. Simply put, this is one of the best addresses to score greatness and we are thrilled to be able to pour it today - at least until the bottle is gone!
Full-throttle dried cherry and plum notes surround alluring spice, tobacco and earth notes. Texturally, this is traditionally styled Amarone as it is dark, round and mouth coating. Large-scaled throughout, this finishes with powerful ripe red tones, excellent length and a lingering cocoa note that finishes with depth and personality and then snaps back and delivers more. Accessible now, but will easily age well for 10-15 more years as well.

Although known more as a producer of red wines, Riccardo makes an excellent Soave that is a white wine really screams springtime (and summer, too).
Seabreeze, very mineral and teeming with dried lemon on the nose. Polished and mouth filling but plenty of brisk acids present themselves nicely. Perfectly poised and fully dry with the classic almond-lemon aspects on the ethereal finish. Obviously, this is fish-friendly; however, it is excellent with green vegetables. I have consumed this white wine with a grilled pork tenderloin done with an asparagus tapenade and it was exquisite!
