2012 VOLPAIA CHIANTI CLASSICO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Perched on the hillsides of Radda in Chianti, Volpaia, one of the grand names of Chianti, have long made sophisticated, debonair Chianti. Traditionally-made and maintaining the fragrant, perfumed floral traits that are what Radda in Chianti are all about, this wine has such a classy and ethereal tone about it.

Finely detailed Chianti with shimmering elegance, red fruit characteristics and a generous finish that has an earthy purity along with roasted Tuscan herb notes underneath. While it has always been delicious, the latest and greatest version of Volpaia's Chianti Classico at 20 bucks is now one of THE spectacular values in all of Tuscany. If you love great Chianti, you will surely want to grab a box of this and drink it now through 2020+.

2012 ISOLE E OLENA CHIANTI CLASSICO
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

"We don't have time for tourism," says Paolo de Marchi, owner and maestro of one of the Chianti zone's most prolific and underground producers. "It would distract us from our wines." His dedication and non-willingness to receive bus-loads of tourists is our gain; Isole e Olena's wines are unbelievably profound and their Chianti is about as real as they come and not a knocked-up Napa Valley wannabe!

Barberino Val D’Elas based, this traditionally made Chianti Classico is made of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Canaiolo and 5% Syrah. 2012 was a somewhat warm vintage in Tuscany and we were so excited to see this wine maintain the refinement and silky quality that makes Isole E Olena one of our favorites in Chianti. The focus here is about violet, chalky clay earth, spicy/smokey Cuban cigar aromas, red fruits and roasted meat. Poised, complex and fresh in the mouth, with bing cherry, raspberry, roasted herbs and a pinch of lifting pepper spice on the back end. The fruit is mouthfilling and red, the fresh flavors linger on the palate. Enjoy over the next decade with grilled panini of Genoa salami, Reggiano and fresh olive oil or a tagliatelle with a lamb ragu dumped on top.

2007 SAN VINCENTI
CHIANTI CLASSICO RISERVA
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

San Vincenti is the product of Roberto Pucci, an entrepreneur from the town of Prato, who devoted his entire resources to renovating this beautiful estate. Perched at 450 meters in the hills in Gaiole, San Vincenti maintains a mere 14 acres of Sangiovese vines from which Pucci fashions muscular, expressive Chianti which flaunts sexy fruit and minerality and always offer outstanding value. The reason for this great price is a result of being from a small family winery sans marketing department, as well as being imported directly sans paying another guy clad in an Armani suit who charges lots of money for watching it come and go through customs (doesn't Armani mean national importer in Italian anyway?). Enough preaching, but it is important to emphasize that this wine has incredible fruit and complexity for under $30!

At age 8, the 2007 Riserva is starting to sing beautifully. Loaded with blackberry, black cherry, licorice, sage, leather, and black pepper, this wine has a dense core of fruit along with firm but approachable tannin. We would recommend holding this a couple years for maximum enjoyment, but if you can’t wait, drink with a great big veal chop, coated with Tuscan herbs, and grilled over a smoky fire. Una combinazione perfetta!

2010 IL MOLINO DI GRACE
CHIANTI CLASSICO GRAN SELEZIONE
$39.99 BTL./$239.94 - SIX PACK

From Panzano in the northern sector of the Chianti Classico zone, Il Molino di Grace is one of Chianti's hidden treasures and values. Alas, these wines are now being discovered, but their appeal still is amazing, especially because they have so much drink-worthy appeal and can age well, too. Gran Selezione is Chianti Classico’s new, apex designation of their wines. Quite difficult to obtain, the wines must be submitted and adhere to a number of stringent qualifications before being approved for this designation.
This is Grand Cru Sangiovese! One whiff of the focused, but wonderfully pure scents of wild flowers, sage, black cherry, and savory earth will have you reminiscing about your last visit to Tuscany! The suave and sultry depth and concentration carry nicely into the mouth as it offers up succulent, ripe and flavorful tones with superb focus and grip as well as finishing up dark, spicy and long. Not undrinkable now (we’re opening it on Friday for tasting) this one definitely can be aged for another 15 years and served for any special occasion.
