OREGON & WASHINGTON WINES FROM RIBERA VINEYARDS

Drop by this Friday, September 13, 3:30 - 6:30 to taste Northwest wines from both Oregon and Washington from a fabulous upstart producer, Ribera Vineyards. Special guest, Ribera Vineyards winemaker Chris Dickson will be on hand pouring and discussing the following 4 wines-

2011 RIBERA VINEYARDS PINOT NOIR "STORMY MORNING VINEYARD"
$22.99 BTL./$275.88 CASE

Lately we've been hearing more whining and moaning when it comes to pricing of established Oregon & Washington stars and well-established vineyard sites. As we grow as a region, prices will only increase, hence it is all of our duties to participate and find the next generation. Ribera Vineyards falls right into this category producing wines from both states.

Ribera's 2011 Pinot Noir is quite delightful. Graceful and pure with fine aromas of red flowers, strawberries, herbs and spice which highlight the cerebral, perfumy nose. Stylish, lacey and velvety with a fine underlying backbone which will hold up to aging. The finish extends, seduces and never flows outside its borders. A true find, this Oregon Pinot Noir will delight with mushroom-based dishes, fowl, or grilled salmon for the next 5-7 years.

2011 RIBERA VINEYARDS "CONFLUENCE" RED MOUNTAIN RED
$20.99 BTL./$251.88 CASE

Ribera Vineyards and Chris Dickson possess quite a passion for Rhone varietals and this passion absolutely extends into this and the following red wine which come from the famed Red Mountain region of Washington. 32% Mourvedre, 29% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 9% Counoise, this aromatic and flavorful red puts forth wily aromas of perfumed black plum, smoked meat, freshly ground white pepper and a hint of cinnamon. Fills the mouth nicely and possesses supple, smooth tannins and sneaky persistence. Very drinkable now and over the next 5 years with barbecue or in winter with a braised lamb dish.

2011 RIBERA VINEYARDS "INTRIGUE" RED MOUNTAIN RED
$31.99 BTL./$383.88 CASE

25% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre, 25% Counoise, Intrigue is big-league stuff from Ribera that is oh-so fairly priced given its pedigree. When you first put your nose to the glass, it is instantaneously evident that there is an extra level of intensity from this 4 barrel (100 cases) selection which unfolds in the complex array of aromas that waft from the glass. Herbes-des-provence, white pepper, exotic Asian spice, wild plum and red raspberry shine to make this hauntingly beautiful NW Red a terrific balancing act of lacy pure red fruits, deep spice and fine structure with a lingering silky finish. Enjoy over the next decade with full, tangy cuisines.

2012 RIBERA VINEYARDS "MIX" WHITE
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

The name and philosophy of this wine almost throws me back to the days of coming home loaded on Wednesday evenings to view South Park on TV, particularly the episode where the concept to marry up a pot-bellied pig with an elephant was featured. Virtually unfeasible, it did provide lots of laughter and a bit of drunken wisdom, but I do digress…

Before Chris poured this Oregon white, I must admit to having a comical thought of this unconventional blend of Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. That is until I tasted it. Pure, forward flavors of pear, cardamom spice, tangerine and bright stony perfume, this lip-smacking white is mouthfilling yet has impeccable lift and freshness that cleanses the palate and leaves you wanting more, more, more! Enjoy with roasted chicken and mushrooms, crab and other rich shellfish dishes.
