Mellen Meyer
Willamette Valley Brut
$26.99 btl./$323.88 case

We first met Bobby Rowitt a few years back when he worked with Marcus at Goodfellow/Matello. It was when he first attended one of our Holiday Bubblebath Champagne tastings that we learned of his interest and desire to make top-notch sparkling wines in the Champagne method from Oregon. Instantaneously he has been very successful.

70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay from 2014 and 2015 vintages along with dollops of 2013, disgorged in September 2018, this wine is one of the coolest expressions of Oregon bubbly that I have tasted. Finesseful apple, white chocolate, spice and underlying puffed pastry carry over into a texture that possesses delicate and fine bubbles. Creamy and persistent with building elevation and nerve. Brilliant toastiness and focus with fine fruit and bead. Extremely lingering, this is something that all Oregonians should be proud to drink to ring in the New Year.

Champagne Louis Roederer
Brut Premier
[reg. $62.99]
Special - $45.99 btl./$275.94 - six pk

The last days of this extraordinary Champagne are upon us so if you want some for the New Year and stash beyond, get it soon! Known for the luxurious and over the top expensive Cristal, Champagne Roederer's current cuvee of their multi-vintage, Brut Premier is, as usual, is on world-beating form!

This is one of the great houses of Champagne, and we cannot think of any other Champagne house that is as consistent with their non-vintage Champagne as Roederer. Lovely aromas of apple, orange, toast, and stone on the nose. In the mouth, it has excellent apple fruit, with good concentration, well-framed acidity and a harmonious finish and silky bubbles from start to finish. An undoubtedly delicious Champagne that will put everyone in a good mood for the alco-holidaze or for any time you require a spot of the jumping grape!

2016 Ridge 'Three Valley'
Zinfandel Bland
$27.99 btl./$335.88 case

I have been waxing on about the greatness of this historical producer since I first put these wines to my nose back when I was just a young wine cherub. Moreover, even now after I have grown into a wine gargoyle, Ridge remains at the top of my palate when it comes to California wines.

The Three Valleys Zin Blend is named for the Sonoma County sites where the grapes are from, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley. A blend like most all their zins, 68% Zinfandel, 15% Carignane, 12% Petite Sirah, 5% Grenache, the use of older and younger vines creates a full figure with great complexity that is a wonderful mix of exuberant fruit and a deep core of intensity and exotic spice with a backend of classic white pepper. While this wine is made for earlier consumption, it will easily age 5-7 years from vintage date. THE red for braised shortribs, bbq chicken, pulled pork or rich cheeses.

2015 Chateau Les Petites
Blaye Cotes-de-Bordeaux
$9.99 btl./$119.88 case

The Cotes-de-Blaye region sits in the northern portion of Bordeaux’s Right Bank and is one of four regions that have merged into calling their wines Cotes-de-Bordeaux. Many interesting values come from this area and this wine is one such offering.

The name of the Chateau itself is appropriate due to its mere 12 hectares spread over three villages. A real joy to drink and classically formed, the 2015 sings brilliantly. Poised and personable, and with a tell-tale right bank Bordeaux nose of ironstone, raspberry, espresso and sandalwood, this delicious red delivers so much for so little. Elegant, sophisticated beyond its price tag and chock full of grace, terroir and a dry, spiced-earth finish. An amazing value that can be consumed any day of the week. Drink it with a plethora of cuisine ranging from smoked meats, grilled beef, Vietnamese dishes, roasted chicken, veggies and more.

2015 Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet
[reg. $74.99]
Special - $49.99 btl. - 7 btls left

According to Ferris Beuhler, you can never go too far! When it comes to drinking the best chardonnays in the world, you can also never go too far! It has been mentioned by several distributors that it is difficult to sell white Burgundy in this town. Well, it really does go to show the sophistication and knowledge of our friends on our lists that you really know all about the best of the best and every year, White Burgundy outsells California Chardonnay about 10 to 1 in our world, regardless of the price point.

Carillon, like Leflaive and Sauzet, is one of the great names of Puligny Montrachet. If there were a specialite de la maison a chez Carillon, it would definitively be the Puligny-Montrachet wines. As wonderful as the previously mentioned Chassagne is, the Puligny amps it up a notch. A lovely nose of grilled almonds and marzipan. Very classy for such a young wine, very luscious fruit with jammy white peach preserve flavors. Lush and lively, very pure fruit with stony minerality and concentration normally reserved for wines at the Premier Cru level.
