Somewhat of an obscure growing region of the Loire Valley, Côte Roanaisse is actually in closer proximity to Beaujolais than to Tours…Located at the foothills of the Massif Central about 70 miles west of the Crus of Beaujolais, this miniscule appellation is all of 530 acres! Domaine Serol is a family operation that has been in existence since the 18th century. 100% Gamay on sand and granite soils…Easy to call it the 11th Cru of Beaujolais, but this is an injustice, the expression is very different. Aromatic, cherry pit, perfumed rose petal and violet. Middleweight and dancing in the mouth, it is perfect to serve with a chill on it along with a plate of meats and cheeses.

A wonderfully crafted blend of Piedmont varietals delivered by one of trendiest Barolo producers. Barbera, Dolcetto, Nebbiolo, Freisa and Albarossa blend, all from within the hills of the village of Barolo. Fleshy with plum, savory herbs, violet, licorice and underlying earth tones. Quite mouthfilling, forward and full of generosity…Very Italian, very Piemontese and best of all very drinkable! Try it with slow roasted fare.

Vastly undervalued wines come from this area, which also claims some of the Grand Cru of Corton (see below). 2006 is a shadow vintage that is wonderful but had the misfortune of following one of the greatest ever. Savvy Burgundy and wine lovers take note - many unearthed gems such as this line up are available! A new addition to the Rapet holdings, the Premier Cru of Champs Pimont is tiny, upper slope and located just south of the city of Beaune…Quintessential Beaune Premier Cru…Cool aromatic aromas and starting to really pick up perfume.
