2015 GIOVANNI ALMONDO
NEBBIOLO LANGHE
$17.99 BTL./$107.94 - SIX PACK

The Almondo family have been farming this land for three centuries but Giovanni Almondo was the first to make wine. His son Domenico started producing wine in 1980 from grapes that his papa used to sell off in bulk. By 1984, he was selling to the US, Switzerland and others and the reputation of the estate soared. Now joined by his two sons, Domenico’s wines continue to impress. Based in Monta in Piedmont’s Roero region, these are some of the finest white wines emerging from this famed region. While we have been offering the Arneis wines for the last few years, our friend Pancetta recently decided to bring in the estate’s Nebbiolo wines and safe to say, we are extremely impressed with the results of this and the following red wine offering!

Aromatic, fine, complex and a complete over-achiever, this 100% Nebbiolo demands respect and adulation from the first moment it is poured. Licorice-laden, nice floral tones, chinato-herbs and very steely, it is linear, wiry and textbook with upscale depth and material all without ever being ponderous. True character and finesse shine on the packed, persistent finish - drink it through 2021.

2015 GIOVANNI ALMONDO ROERO
'BRIC VALDIANA'
$29.99 BTL./$179.94 - SIX PACK

Bric Valdiana is one of the esteemed vineyards in the Roero hills and in the prolific Almondo lineup. This 100% Nebbiolo Cru offering is so damn good that one must think if it came from Barolo or Barbaresco that it would easily fetch twice the price given its pedigree.

Sand, silt, clay and limestone soils bring about aromatic complexity and the 30-degree grade of the slope situated at 280+ meters provides the spine. Glorious aromatics with plenty of telltale rose petal and black licorice, but there are also overtones of birch, coffee and blackcurrant. In the mouth, this shows plenty of youthful tendencies, but also has glorious depth and sophistication. Very long, extensive and crawls nicely through the mouth. Plenty of structure that builds and expands; this is the Damien Lillard of Nebbiolo! If you want to approach a bottle now, don't feel as though you are committing a crime, but for maximum pleasure drink it end of 2018 – 2026+. Only about 1000 six packs produced...and that is for the world, not just the US market.

2015 GIOVANNI ALMONDO ARNEIS
'VIGNA SPARSE'
$13.99 BTL./$83.94 - SIX PACK

The name of the grape, Arneis, is derived from Piedmont dialect and means little rascal. One of the more finicky grapes to grow, the white wine it produces is synonymous with the Roero region and has experienced somewhat of a revival over the last few years.

The newly arrived 2016 reveals classic, beautiful aromatics of white peaches and flowers that lead into a rich, mouthful of citrus fruit and spice. Often times we talk about wine with food, but this one tastes just great on its own. If you are going to enjoy it with food we would recommend fish, preferably white fish done with a citrus marinade or fruit salsa or it can easily make for a perfect aperitivo or a fine porch pounder.

2015 GIOVANNI ALMONDO ARNEIS
'BRICCO CILIEGIE'
$19.99 BTL./$119.94 - SIX PACK

One of the prized jewels in the Almondo lineup is the Bricco delle Ciliegie. 11 acres of vines encompass a hill that up until 70 years ago was farmed with cherries (hence the name Ciliegie). Spread out over several parcels, the soils at this site change like an obstacle course and they all play a vital role within the wine.

One of the most prized expressions of Arneis in all of Piedmont, the 2015 is smokin’ delicious at the moment! Gorgeously ripe and stunningly balanced with a flood of blood orange, lemongrass, starfruit, and mineral on the nose. In the mouth it is dazzling, dry and brisk, but with no shortage of depth and flavor. Fantastic white for roasted, barbequed or deep fried bird or with seafood especially seared tuna in an Asian prep or fried calamari.
