2018 GAROFOLI 'MACRINA'
VERDICCHIO DEI CASTELLI DEI JESI
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

Growing up in Pittsburgh, the local parishes would always have an annual fund-raising carnival, and while the Ferris Wheel wasn't as large or scary as others in official amusement parks, the guys who ran them were usually half-loaded and made them hella scary-fun anyway. Back when we were 10, it wasn't necessarily about the quantity, but the quality of the ride. Nowadays if something like that happened you would have breaking local news alerts and it would be back to being NO FUN ALLOWED! Why do we choose the Garofoli wines in reference to a wild ride on a Ferris wheel operated by a ‘mildly’ intoxicated church volunteer? It is a simple explanation. One, because I can and Two, it is to loosen yinz up and offer you something thrilling and of superb quality that promises to have you giggling and laughing when consumed in copious amounts – the entire range!

The Verdicchio Macrina is a yummy white wine offering that can best be described as being very Italian, but in an intriguing sense, we sometimes refer to it as ‘Maritime Chablis’. The soils for this wine are clay with intermittent sand. Beautifully aromatic scents of crustacean shells, mineral, and kaffir lime follow into a texture that is clean and harmonious as the day is long. Loads of elevation and mineral fill out the sneaky, yet substantial finish. If there ever is a perfect companion to a bowl of steamed mussels with some saffron, this is it!

GAROFOLI LE MARCHES FRIZZANTE
'GUELFO VERDE'
$9.99 BTL./$119.88 CASE

Fully dry and naturally sparkling, this is the perfect wine for "ladies who lunch." The rest of us can enjoy it, too! Blended with Verdicchio, Trebbiano and Chardonnay, the concept to this sparkling wine is somewhat close to Prosecco, however, the Garofoli's version is completely dry and much much better than any Prosecco at this price.

Apple blossom and lively citrus carry over into a texture that is fresh and captivating. Have this for just about any occasion with friends over hors d'oeuvres or just by itself…and the best bit about this jumping grape is its unbelievable price. Drink now, drink often and most of all, drink lots!

2016 GAROFOLI ROSSO CONERO
'PIANCARDA'
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

As wonderful as Garofoli’s white wines are, the red wines are equally as formidable. The best way that I can describe these very individualistic wines is that they are poetic animals. Piancarda is the first of two Rosso Conero wines and is always a stupendous value.

Made with 100% of the Montepulciano grape, this wine is dark, haunting and nothing like its Abruzzo brethren. Soil and sea play a tremendous role with this wine and enhance the very authentic fruit that the Garofoli family always obtains. Elusive with perpetual movement, constantly rolling in different, alluring directions each time you draw it to the nose. Piquant, graceful, classy with impressive palate coverage and extension. Creamy, generous and genuine, the previously mentioned soil and sea really play their roles to perfection in concert with the fruit. The darkness and wildness of the Montepulciano is offset nicely by the tanginess and salinity of the terroir. One to drink over the next 4-5 years with a classic minestrone or roasted pork loin slathered in Italian herbs.

2012 GAROFOLI CONERO RISERVA
'GROSSO AGONTANO'
$31.99 BTL./$191.94 - SIX PACK

It is a thrill to offer a producer's top, award-winning wine for a price such as this. If you were to purchase a wine of this quality in Barolo, Barbaresco, Tuscany or Veneto's Amarone, you would be in for 2-to-4 times the price.

Unabashedly undervalued, this 100% Montepulciano is a mountain of a red wine! Exciting aromas reveal finely placed oak tones that weave through dense blackberry, Christmas spice, game, violet and cardamom. Elusive with perpetual movement, constantly rolling in different, alluring directions each time you draw it to the nose. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, graceful, and classy with impressive persistence and penetration. Creamy, generous and genuine, it still reveals plenty of structure and spine, especially on the warm, packed, long finish. Have this with grilled lamb or grilled steak; however, it will also age nicely for 10-12 years, too.
