93 Points – Wine Enthusiast Magazine...One of the pillars of Tuscany’s famed town of Montalcino, Avignonesi has put forth an exquisite Vino Nobile.

Scintillating Sangiovese, this wonderfully pure Nobile possesses scents of red plum, sage, black cherry, and savory earth. 2021 CROWLEY CHARDONNAY
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
$24.99 BTL./$299.88 CASE

Oregon Chardonnay is a hot topic especially given the superb quality of what is emerging from many wineries. Tyson Crowley is one of the best at the Chardonnay game and this entry level wine performs at lofty levels for its price point. In fact, pound for pound, this is one of the finest in Oregon for its quality to price rapport.

First thing we must state, Oregon Chardonnay is NOT like butterbomb California versions. Taking more of a cue from Burgundy and done in small lots, our Chards are quickly forging their own identities with finesse, tension and depth. Intensity and richness but none of the intrusive oaky smell, this wine is redolent of mineral, freshly cut flowers, tangerine and lemon aromas. On the palate, it exudes the fleshiness that is the 2021 vintage but also displays the firm, crisp side that higher elevation fruit brings forth. Exciting and layered, but with electricity and breadth of flavor and character. Drink now through 2029 with grilled white fish like sea bass or sole.</div>

2020 MAS DE GOURGONNIER
LES BAUX DE PROVENCE ROUGE
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Organically grown, Mas de Gourgonnier's 2020 Les Baux de Provence Rouge is comprised of about 30% each of Grenache and Carignan and smaller portions of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Harmonious, exquisite and not a hair out of place, this palate-staining red delivers up all of the goodness that is Provence. Layered, sensuous and deep aromas of blackberry, lavender, cinnamon, wild spice, white pepper and black olive that follow through to a buxom, smooth yet energetic texture that engages the entire palate from start to finish. A great package (the Calvados-inspired squat bottle looks cool on the table) and most importantly a great deal. Drink this Southern French stunner over the next 4-6 years with lamb.

2021 STRUB SILVANER TROCKEN
'RHEINHESSEN'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Esoteric??-Absolutely. Delicious??- you bet! I am such a Silvaner supporter that when I find good versions such as this one, I just have to offer them to you all.

An A-HA for wine lovers, this delectable dry German white wine from the Rheinhessen region obtains excellent individuality but maintains a non-geek factor. Chiseled rose-oil scents seemingly tinged with ruby grapefruit, tell-tale spice and gently placed marzipan. The texture is classy and seductive with vibrant minerality. Complete and well-balanced, with plenty of lemony crispness which offsets the wine's natural viscosity; without a doubt, this wine pairs impeccably with in-season asparagus and other green vegetables, however it will also pair nicely with spicy Thai food or grilled salmon jacked with ginger.

2020 REVERDITO LANGHE NEBBIOLO
$17.99 BTL./$215.88 CASE

Located in the Barolo village of La Morra, Michele Reverdito owns land not only in La Morra, he also has vineyards in Monforte, Serralunga and Verduno with 23 of the 27 acres dedicated to Nebbiolo for his seven Barolo wines as well as this over-achieving entry version.

Like all of the wines at this estate, the Nebbiolo is nuanced and refined. Persistently aromatic scents of strawberry licorice, rose, tar and spice follow through to a finely detailed texture that is essence of what Nebbiolo is and should be. Classy and thought provoking, elegant and full all at once, this classy red can be consumed over the next 4-5 years. Have it with braised lamb or beef in a red wine (preferably Nebbiolo) sauce.

2022 GC CELLARS MELON
WILLAMETTE VALLEY
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Long time Oregon producer John Grochau (Grochau Cellars or GC ) has long been a proponent of the Melon grape in Oregon. Known as the grape of Muscadet in France’s Loire Valley, there isn’t heaps of it planted of it here in Oregon but the producers who work with this varietal seem to do it very well and all create their own expressions.

John’s Melon is very forthright with shorter lees contact than Muscadet thus leaving the wonderful fruit intact. Commencing with Nectarine scents and undertones of mineral, this pale white then draws more complexity from lemongrass, honeydew melon and lime tones for enhancement. Brisk and mouthwatering on the palate with fine intensity and length, this is a wonderful match for a plate of freshly shucked northwest oysters – but you all knew that anyway.</div>

2021 ESCUDO ROJO
CABERNET SAUVIGNON 'RESERVA'
$19.99 BTL/$239.88 CASE

In the late 1990s, Mouton-Rothschild decided to venture out and explore the possiblities in Chile and in 1999 Escudo Rojo (Red Shield) was born. As is the same in Bordeaux with their famous First Growth Pauillac, this branch of the Rothschild family is all about apex quality and these wines, while excellent values, do not disappoint.

Situated at the base of the Andes Mountains, this region’s extended growing season is very conducive for Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in 10% new oak with the remainder done in 1-2 year old barrels, this wine shows not only terroir but also beautiful fruit and most of all, is not a lumber mill. Flavorful and structured with ripe notes of cassis, cherry, cinnamon and mint, this wine has the richness of fruit that you would expect to find in a Chilean red with the balance and pedigree of a Bordeaux made by Mouton. Drink now through 2027.

2018 ET FILLE PINOT NOIR
MARESH VINEYARD
$59.99 BTL./$719.88 CASE

If there were ever a classification system for Oregon’s vineyards, Maresh would certainly be considered Grand Cru. One of the top wines from our friend Jessica Mozieco at Et Fille, it is always a thrill to offer just about any Pinot Noir from the Maresh vineyard and sure enough, Et Fille’s 2018 does not disappoint.

From forty-plus year old vines and all Pommard clone, the 2018 was aged in one-third new oak. This vintage provides sexy depth of fruit but this wine is certainly tightly wound and youthful with plenty of red berry and red flowers. Extremely pure and genteel, there are terrific Dundee Hills scents that are waiting to come out with time. Lots of breed and satisfying strawberry tones that are delineated and locked in. The material here is ultra-impressive and it is on the finish where this statement is fully realized. There is a swan beneath the surface; give it until 2025 then drink it through 2035 to obtain the maximum pleasure that is in this bottle.

2021 LOUIS MICHEL CHABLIS
'MONTMAINS' PREMIER CRU
$49.99 BTL./$599.88 CASE - LIMITED!

Recognized as a Chablis maestro, Louis Michel wines always get us excited, especially due to their purity.

Montmains is on the opposite bank of the Grands Crus but is one of the cooler sites within the already cool Chablis region. As with all of Michel Chablis wines, this one is unoaked. This particular site epitomizes what folks perceive as classic Chablis. Prototype, sculpted and expressive, the first and last word that is shouted from this wine is MINERAL! Tactile, vertical and essence of kimmeridgean/stone/crustacean scents with underlying lemon and floral aspects join in and follow to a very steely, nervy, complex palate that is racy, compact and very persistent. Easily one that will age for 10-15 years, drink it young with raw seafood like oysters but after 2026, have it with fish in a cream sauce. Limited bits of Vaillons and Montee de Tonnerre Premiers Crus are also available, inquire if interested.

Made from 94% Petite Sirah and 6% Syrah off old vines from Lodi and Clarksburg, this wine screamed "scrumptious" from the first scent to the long finish.
