2023 ZERBINA SANGIOVESE DI
ROMAGNA 'POGGIO VICCHIO'
$19.99 BTL./$119.94..6-PK

It is never a surprise when Cristina Geminiani, someone responsible for establishing and enhancing the DOC/G of Sangiovese di Romagna and Riserva just west of Bologna, puts forth a delicious, award-winning, value-driven red wine.

From a single vineyard and plot in Marzeno, 2023 follows up the brilliance of 2021 and 2022 brilliantly. Articulate minerality, pure cherry, decadent cocoa, black licorice, and sage qualities play off each other, take center stage and create a wonderful mouthfeel that is both filling and uplifting at the same time. Suede-like structure, and really comes together as the wine is aerated, especially if you serve it in a Bordeaux glass. Terrific complexity and vibrancy throughout, this wine has moxie, class, depth and persistence. Drink through 2033 with classic Italian dishes based around grilled pork or beef, it is also epic with penne in a Bolognese sauce or lasagna.

2023 ZERBINA ALBANA
DI ROMAGNA BIANCO
$19.99 BTL./$119.94..6-PK

Cristina Geminiani did not just open the door for future generations of women winemakers; she bulldozed it.

THE benchmark for the Albana grape, scents of cassis leaf, peach pit, blossom, lime, perfumed mineral and saline step forward at various times as this complex dry white unfurls in the glass. Multilayered, but contradictory as there is bounteous luminous qualities becoming very precise on the long, drawn out and elongated finish. Truly a grand scale Italian white wine. Pairs it with cured ham, particularly Proscuitto di Parma. It will also marry nicely with salt cod fritters, halibut in sauce, steamed mussels finished with curry as well as grilled eggplant or zucchini dishes like Spaghetti alla Nerano.
