2024 FRANCOIS CHIDAINE
SAUVIGNON BLANC TOURAINE
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Located in Montlouis sur-Loire, Francois Chidaine rose through the ranks to become the finest producer in this underrated Chenin Blanc region. He also makes stellar Vouvray. A while back, Francois expanded his reaches to make wines from the vast Touraine region.

100% Sauvignon Blanc from the Cher Valley from two villages situated about halfway between the city of Tours and Sancerre. A rarity for this area is that this wine is hand-harvested and farmed biodynamically. Beautifully clear and precise aromas of exuberant grapefruit and mandarin, this is a fun, yet quite serious drink. Crystallized fruit with gentle scents of flint and chalk lead into a texture that is vivid, lively and thirst-quenching. This will pair well with chevre, shrimp salad or cod. Now if I were really a puritan, I’d say that this goes down too easily and almost like water, but since I am not exactly very virtuous, I’d suggest using it when you are on a date. You figure it out!

2020 BODEGAS ASTER
RIBERA DEL DUERO CRIANZA
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Bodegas Aster is the Ribera del Duero estate of iconic Rioja producer La Rioja Alta. These wines are vastly different than their Rioja offerings, the result of a warmer Mediterranean climate.

The Crianza is the cuvee that drives the Bodegas Aster bus and 2020 is a joy to enjoy. 100% Tempranillo. Chock full of deep, smooth, full-flavored black plum, Havanas, cocoa and nutmeg tones, impressive from the first moment you put it in the glass all the way through to the savory finish. Kudos to Bodegas Aster for putting out such magnificent wine for not a lot of money. It will also age nicely for 8-10 years, too.

2022 FARINA VALPOLICELLA
RIPASSO 'SUPERIORE'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

In existence since the 16th century, the latest generation of the Farina family pays respect to modern technique for some of their wines but when it comes to the classic line of wines such as this Valpolicella, it is all about history.

Ripasso is a Veneto winemaking technique that consists of taking freshly pressed Valpolicella Classico juice and passing it over the pomace (mainly skins and seeds) of the Amarone. Notes of mountain spices and wild berries that speak of the Veneto intermingle with the core of sultry fruit and exotic spice from the Ripasso technique. Completely dry with equilibrium coming from the high-toned fruit brings a level of liveliness. Enjoy with braised meat dishes, or anything with stewed or roasted veggies.

2023 KELLEY FOX CHARDONNAY
'DURANT VINEYARD'
[reg. $39.99]
SPECIAL - $26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

A special price for a Chardonnay from a treasured producer and a pioneer Dundee Hills vineyard site. Kelley’s Chardonnay comes from vines planted in 1991 aged without the use of oak barrels, solely in concrete amphora tanks.

Billowy notes of mango, mandarin and Meyer lemon offer the perfect blackboard for this unique terroir. I referred to this wine as a ‘stealth cobra’ because it puffed itself up, filling the glass with sun-kissed yellow fruit then striking on the finish with precision-like minerality and defined texture. An impressive effort indeed. Drink over the next decade.

2021 PEACHY CANYON
PETITE SIRAH 'PASO ROBLES'
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

Known for specializing in Paso Robles Zinfandel, the Beckett family also produces a large and in-charge Petite Sirah. If you yearn for the days when Petite Sirah flowed like a river before it was all grafted to Merlot, then this is a wine that you can reminisce over.

Full bodied and chewy, with dense, ripe black fruit, tangy earth, spice and mineral on the nose as well as hints of tar, cocoa. Powerhouse flavors of ripe blackberries and blueberries followed by a rich yet clean, lingering finish and juicy ripe tannins framing the fruit. It's August, so don the ‘kiss the chef’ apron and break the Weber out…tick tock.

2022 DOMINQUE PIRON MORGON
'COTE DE PY'
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE - LIMITED

95 Points – Wine Enthusiast Magazine...A true mainstay of Beaujolais, Dominique Piron is a 14th generation producer based in Villie-Morgon. Making wines from seven of the ten Cru, this is always a superb address, but it is the Morgon wines that always shine bright.

The single site Morgon Côte-de-Py is all from steep slope with blue shale soils. Monumental aromas of pronounced minerality, perfume, violet, and raspberry flow. The texture is plentiful yet maintains poise and grace. Very vinous, it finishes with lovely pomegranate and spiciness on the coating, detailed finish. A magical match with steak au poivre and can age 12-15 years.

2022 ANDELUNA MALBEC
MENDOZA '1300'
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

When it comes to Malbec from Argentina, Andeluna is one of the leaders. It also doesn't hurt that their prices allow them to be remarkable values.

Named for its altitude of 1300 meters and aged in French oak for three months followed by a few more months in stainless steel, this generous red exhibits alluring aromas of cassis, black pepper, and an undertow of cherry and milk chocolate. Surprising depth along with impeccable lift and freshness, Andeluna's ‘1300’ Malbec can be enjoyed tonight or let it age gracefully for 2-3 more years as well.

2023 TERRE NERE ETNA ROSSO
'CALDERARA SOTTANO'
$59.99 BTL./$359.94 - SIX PACK

96+ Points – Vinous…Sicily is filled with diversity when it comes to soil, elevations, climate and grape varietals and wines from Mt. Etna are some of the most sought after. Marc de Grazia’s Terre Nere is an apex producer; however, the popularity and scarcity of the wines, cause them to sell out quickly.

Owning a mere three acres in the prized Grand Cru of Calderara, Terre Nere’s version is from 50–100-year-old vines planted in black volcanic ash soil with scattered black rock. Even young, this red runs the gamut of complex aromas, shifting like an obstacle course as it opens. Transparent and focused with prominent red fruits, savory herbs (rosemary, laurel and anise) with underlying balsamic and turned earth aspects arriving. Expansive and ethereal, abundant palate coverage and velour-like qualities, emerge on the persistent finish that shows rocky energy along with intermittent kisses of vanilla. On second taste, more backbone arrives to let you know it is still young. Not inaccessible now but it will improve and silk out over the next 10-15 years.
