Jumilla, Spain. 50% Tempranillo 50% Monastrell (Mourvèdre). Bursting and delivers for a mere 7 bucks. Black cherry, balsamic, ground coffee and violet aromas. Flavorful, vibrant and hearty. Drink with charcuterie, grilled chicken or pizza.




2010 ROQUE SESTIERE CORBIERES

Languedoc, France. 60% Syrah, 40% Carignan. France's soul is prominently displayed in this delicious red. Strawberry, blackberry, ample roasted earth, licorice and a mélange of peppery notes on the finish. Drink with slow roasted duck or lamb shoulder.




2010 TRAVIGNOLI CHIANTI RUFINA

Chianti Rufina zone within Tuscany. 100% Sangiovese. No oak, utilized and impressively stacked. Cherry, berry, sage, wild spice. Savory flavors, dry, nice underlying heartiness. Serve with pasta with a sugo. For the number-lovers, this has 91 points from International Wine Cellar..

Mendoza, Argentina. 100% Malbec. A superb slurper that is what Argentina can and should be doing with $10 Malbecs, no oak! Plummy, juicy, very vibrant and spicy. Blue fruits abound, high-elevation freshness. Terrific burger wine.




2010 RAINOLDI ROSSO DI VALTELLINA

Lombardy's Valtellina region in Italy, up near the Swiss Border. 100% Nebbiolo. Sleek, wiry, classic Nebbiolo. Very floral and ample red clay-dust aspects along with forest floor scents. Almost fragrantly flavored, elegant with plenty of push. Pair with mushrooms slathered over roasted meats. The more the better!




2011 DOULOUFAKIS "ENOTRIA" ??????? ?????

Crete, Greece. Liatiko, Kotsifali and a kiss of Syrah. No, this selection is not retsina, it's a full-flavored Mediterranean Red made from 2 native Greek grapes and one that's non-indigenous. Tangy aromas of red cherry, cassis, herbs, saline and vanilla. Mouth-filling, luscious and very easy to like. Enjoy with lamb dishes.

2010 FOXGLOVE ZINFANDEL "PASO ROBLES'

Paso Robles, California. 99% Zinfandel, 1% Petite Sirah. As usual, Foxglove absolutely kills it with this big Zin. Opaque and alluring. Blackberry, briar, Asian spice and cocoa dust. Flavorsome, full-on, mouth-coating, but maintaining brightness. Grilled steak or short-ribs with a tangy sauce is in order. Insane value for a Zin this good!!
