2013 POLIZIANO
ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

Federico Carletti is a legend in Tuscany, known for being a stickler for quality in the vineyard and his intense level of commitment is evident in the wines that he produces. Federico uses the best of modern practices yet maintains a sense of place and has a firm stance in the great traditions of the region. After tasting the 2013 Rosso di Montepulciano Bryan's palate says that there seemingly is a chunk of top-notch, declassified fruit inserted here. This is par for the course, especially given that Federico gives as much love to his Rosso as he does to his 60-dollar single Cru Asinone Vino Nobile.

Starry Sangiovese nose with super material, this crowd-pleasing red shows off flashy wild cherry, savory herbs, smoke and spicy earth on the nose and especially on the engaging, mouth-filling palate. Lots of depth and personality, especially for 14 bucks!

2013 LOHSA MORELLINO DI SCANSANO
$13.99 BTL./$167.88 CASE

The village of Scansano is a bastion for many often overlooked Tuscan treasures. With its slightly warmer climate, hills and abundance of iron-oxide soil, Scansano is one of the unique growing regions of this famed area of Italy and can deliver wines on all levels.

In 1998, the famous and highly regarded Vino Nobile di Montepulciano estate, Poliziano purchased a plot of land from this vastly underrated area. 85% Morellino (the local clone of Sangiovese) and 15% Ciliegiolo comprise the blend and maintains Poliziano's high standard of excellence and integrity. Nutmeg, dark chocolate and a prominent minerality surrounds black raspberry and roasted plum notes while a mouth-filling combination of wild spice, earth and well-placed core of fruit pleasantly fills the mouth. Classic Sangio vivacity and juiciness shine throughout, enjoy with grilled or roasted meats, eggplant and hearty pasta dishes.

2011 POLIZIANO CORTONA ROSSO
'IN VIOLAS'
$29.99 BTL./$179.94 - SIX PACK

The emergence of wines from around the small city of Cortona took hold when the area became a DOC in 1999 and Poliziano was one of the producers who recognized the potential immediately. This is an area where French varietals like Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah gained traction and have thrived very well indeed.

Poliziano’s ‘In Violas’ comes from a single, seven-acre plot and is a hearty red wine that will undoubtedly change your mind about Merlot from Italy. Suave, savory and crammed with blackberry and blueberry tones that weave through spices that range from nutmeg and vanilla to classic spice cake and sandalwood. Full-bodied, with concentration and Italian tanginess wrap themselves around velvety tannins in the mouth then carry into a long and expansive finish. Very irresistible now but there is no problem for this wine to age for another decade.
