2013 FELSINA CHIANTI CLASSICO
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Within Tuscany, many of the producers as well as the pundits refer to vintage 2013 as one that is Chiantigiana, meaning that the wines are true to form, BALANCED Chianti. Located in Castelnuove Berardenga, Fattoria di Felsina is one of the standard-bearers when it comes to top-notch Tuscan wines. We have been following and working with these wines for 20+ years and this fine estate continues to make smoking wines including this wonderful expression.

Outstanding, classic Castelnuovo scents of savory black and red raspberry, tobacco, leather, allspice and sage. Luxurious and well integrated, but with sneaky spine power and complex flavors. Nice spice in the mouth as well as backbone that allows for nice development. The finish lingers and drips Chianti (Not as foul as one might think. Besides, penicillin is available for it). This ain't your straw fiasco Chianti from college days! Enjoy it now through 2024 with paparadelle pasta with a meat sugo, Bistecca Fiorentina or yours or any Italian Nonna’s Meatloaf recipe slathered in tomato gravy.

2013 GRAMERCY CELLARS SYRAH
'LOWER EAST'
$26.99 BTL./$323.88 CASE

A wine this good at such a fair tariff from a Walla Walla genius is virtually unheard of these days. Greg Harrington created the Lower East lineup of wines a few years back to give many more an opportunity to have a go at his outstanding Washington wines. Along with a Rhone blend and a Cabernet, this Syrah is the latest addition to the Gramercy LE family and after tasting it, I can emphatically say that if some other unnamed producers had made this wine, it would easily retail for for, not south of 30!

Inspired by the likes of Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage, the Gramercy wines always notate the earth and soil that they are grown in. If I had to describe the wine in one sentence, it would best be described as purity of fruit and earth with minimal influence from oak, but since I have the dais here and can shoot my mouth off for days about these wines I will expound.

Forward and pretty perfume of smoke, black cherries, mineral, asphalt and ground pepper. In the mouth, it is very clean and silky with lots of red fruit and expansion that maintains smoothness, dimension and possesses an impressive follow through. This is just a plain delicious bottle of wine meant for the table. Unlike many oak bomb, fifteen percent alcohol versions from Washington, this wine has soul and is more akin to George Clinton, as it makes you want to dance and turn this mother out. Seriously, though, this is an incredible example of new world Syrah for the price to be enjoyed over the next 7-8 years.

2015 CANTALUPO ROSE
COLLINE NOVARESE 'IL MIMO'
$16.99 BTL./$203.88 CASE

100% Nebbiolo Rose from the northern reaches of Piedmont in the village of Ghemme, Cantalupo is extremely well known for their fabulous red wines but each year we look to the arrival of this excellent pink wine that sells out so quickly, it virtually never makes our weekly offerings. Fortunately, there is a decent supply this year and we’re pouring it today (6-24-2016).

Alluring red licorice whip and strawberry surround subtle mineral and freshly cut herbs. Cool and ethereal texture that takes on all of the nuances that the nose gives. The finish bursts and grabs the tongue before heading down. Beautifully dry and seafood friendly. Slurp, slurp, slurp, and then open another bottle!

2015 CHATEAU HENRI BONNAUD
PALETTE ROSE
$23.99 BTL./$287.88 CASE

Located just outside of Aix En Provence, the Provence region of Palette is quite a rarity because its miniscule size and amount of producers, only 106 acres in total and five producers encompass this magical appellation! Chateau Henri Bonnaud produces stunning reds, whites and this wickedly handsome pink wine that is a virtual requirement for Bouillabaise and other Mediterranean seafood preparations. 40% Mourvedre, 40% Grenache and 20% Cinsault from limestone soils at the foot of the famous Mont Sainte-Victoire immortalized by Paul Cezanne, this wine takes Rose to another level than just one to sip outdoors on its own.
An authentic Rose for a meal, this wine struts its stuff with Exuberant and complex tones of hawthorn, berry, herbes de provence, lemon and strawberry that saunter into a texture that is palate coating and fleshy, yet brisk and full of vivacity. Insane dimension and depth shine on the long, long finish. One can drink this by itself but it really is asskicking stuff a seafood stew, grilled whole chickens with fresh herbs, or crusty bread and an assortment of olives. ALSO, one doesn't have to just drink Rose for summer, this rose is substantial and complex enough for fall, winter, spring-time and even into 2018!
