2013 JERMANN PINOT BIANCO
$26.99 BTL./$161.94 - SIX PACK

Not only is Silvio Jermann is one of Italy's most important winegrowers, he is nothing short of revolutionary. Silvio has been at the forefront of the Italian wine movement since the seventies, with his crystalline versions of Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Ribolla Gialla, Chardonnay and his benchmark white Vintage Tunina made from his property in Friuli, located in close proximity to the border of Slovenia. Jermann wines always evoke a strong sense of sheer happiness whenever Karen and Bryan drink them. If you are looking for a bottle of wine to stir the senses and prompt great conversation, look no further than these renowned offerings and join the ever-growing club of Jermann worship.

Jermann’s 2013 Pinot Bianco is ambrosial. The nose of this white wine from Italy’s Friuli region reveals boundless scents of baked apple, flint, tangerine, white flowers and is seemingly mineral-soaked. This viscous beauty coats your mouth with rich flavors that are kept in perfect balance by its vibrancy and zest. This wine screams for seafood, particularly grilled salmon or halibut. Nothing brings a bit more sunshine than we already have quite like a Jermann’s prime, piercing and penetrating Pinot Bianco.

2014 JERMANN PINOT GRIGIO
$19.99 BTL./$239.88 CASE

There is a correlation between Silvio Jermann and Bob Marley. No, Silvio doesn't ‘wake and bake’ and Bob's choice of libations weren't exactly in liquid form, but there would be large voids in the present day wine & music worlds if neither of these pillars of greatness existed and challenged us.

It could easily be said that the world doesn't need another Pinot Grigio, but in this case, we're all the better for being able to experience this version. Collectively, Pinot Gris is not our first choice when it comes to an interesting drink, but there are only two places in the world where we find the characters to wax on about, that is northern Italy and the greats of Alsace. Take the Jermann philosophy and plug it in and you have a Grigio that dances and impresses with concentrated flavor and balanced freshness. The 2014 is a refined and poised version and is not only vinous but is very illuminating. Perfumed rock dust and mineral-driven, intense flavors dominate with crisp melon, smoked apple and fresh lemon. Deep enough for salmon, vivacious enough for scallops.

2013 JERMANN 'VINNAE'
RIBOLLA GIALLA
$24.99 BTL./$149.94 - SIX PACK

Ribolla Gialla is a white grape varietal whose origins are thought to be from Greece, particularly Cephalonia making its way through Slovenia eventually landing to its spiritual home of Friuli. Try telling this to an Italian and you may hear them insist that it is native to the peninsular country, especially since it has documentation in the Friuli region as early as 1289.

A varietal that can be produced in an array of styles, Jermann’s version is definitely one of the benchmarks and perfect for those who are firmly entrenched in the anything but Chardonnay camp. The 2014 is an extremely complex wine that changes like an obstacle course while it sits in the glass. Kicking off with finesseful scents of lemongrass, quince paste, subtle almond and plenty of mineral, more tones of rose oil and spice start to arrive as it airs. The texture is dry and luxurious without having any intrusive oaky ones and maintaining the Jermann trademark of finesse. Finely tuned, tense and vibrant flavors that all have their place and then lead to a long, almost velvety, silky finish. This is a wow wine, especially with crab, salt cod or pan-seared salmon preparations.

2013 SPERI VALPOLICELLA RIPASSO
[reg. 29.99] SPECIAL - $19.99 BTL./$119.94 - 6 PACK

Times are changing in the Amarone producing area of Il Valpolicella in Italy's Veneto region when it comes to the thought process of making Ripasso wines. A reversion of sorts is occurring which highlights the wines not being "baby Amarone" while still maintaining the pass-over process but instead following the original vision of the 1950s and 60s which featured wines of breed and uniqueness that were the benchmarks of this process and region. Yes, Amarone is still the same beast of a wine that it is and should be, but now many producers such as Speri are putting forth Ripasso wines that don't kick your ass with high octane levels. Still, these wines preserve flavor and aura that entice and allow one to enjoy a full bottle.

Notes of forest, violet and wild red berries that speak of the Veneto perfectly intermingle with the core of sultry fruit and exotic spice that comes from the ripasso technique. Completely dry with equilibrium coming from the high-toned fruit brings a level of liveliness to the mix making this an extremely food friendly and versatile bottle of red wine. Enjoy with braised and hearty meat dishes, burgers, nutty cheeses & anything with stewed or roasted veggies.
